Comment démarrer Windows sans entrer un mot de passe - How to launch Windows without entering a password

English version below

How to launch Windows without entering a password

The reason we use a password to launch Windows is to keep prying eyes out of our computer.  This is mostly the case when working in an office or when sharing a room in a University dorm.  But if you're at home and no one else uses your computer, why go through the hassle of typing a password every time you launch Windows.

Here is how to disable the password in Windows 7, 8.1 or Windows 10.

The first thing to do is to open a command prompt.  In Windows 7, click on Start and type cmd in the "Search programs and files" field.  In Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, right click the Start button and select "Command Prompt".  At the command prompt, type netplwiz.

The netplwiz window will appear.  Netplwiz is also known as the User Account Control Panel.  Select the account you wish to logon automatically, and uncheck the checkbox above that says "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and click OK.

Enter your password twice and click OK.

Restart Windows and you will now bypass the log-in screen and the lock screen if you are using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, and automatically arrive at the start screen in Windows 8.1 or the desktop in Windows 7 or Windows 10 without entering a password.

If you ever change your mind and decide you want to enable the login password, just type netplwiz at the command prompt to open the User Account Control Panel Window, select your account and click on the checkbox for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option.

Bureau virtuel et réinitialisation réseau - Virtual desktop and network reset

English version below

Virtual desktop and network reset

This week I'll show you how to use Windows 10 virtual desktop and how to reset your network settings with a few clicks.

Virtual Desktop

Windows has always encouraged the use of virtual desktops, but required an add-on such as Sysinternals Desktops utility.  With Windows 10, virtual desktops is built in and easy to use.

To create a new desktop, click on the Task View button (next to the search box in the task bar) or using the keyboard shortcut Windows key + Tab, and then click New Desktop.

Each virtual desktop is assigned a number.  To view which windows and apps are open in a desktop, just hover that desktop to view thumbnails.  To move an app to another desktop, just drag and drop the thumbnail into the new desktop.  To close a desktop, just click the X in the upper right corner of its thumbnail.

You can use Task View to switch virtual desktops, but it's quicker to switch between them using the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + Ctrl + right arrow/left arrow.

One click network reset

A subtle change added in Windows 10 anniversary update is the Network status page.  It's located under Settings > Network & Internet > Status.  The page shows the status of the current network connection.

If you have a working network connection, it shows the status of the connection.  If you have a problem, it offers two tools to automatically repair many common problems.

The first one is the troubleshoot button, which opens the Windows Networks Diagnostics utility.  It runs a short suite of tests that will fix most common network related problems.

If that doesn't work, you can try a more drastic solution.  At the bottom of the page is a Network Reset button.  it will delete all network settings and start fresh.
